Rita Ayers is a native Mississippian and finished high school in Brewton, Alabama. She received a B.S. degree in secondary mathematics education from the University of South Alabama in 1977, a master's degree in the same area in 1989, and an administrative and supervision certification in 2005. She has been teaching for 27 years in Mobile area schools, including St. Paul's Episcopal, Robertsdale High, Daphne High, and Fairhope High.

Mrs. Ayers was named Daphne High's Teacher of the Year in 1998 and was one of 100 Radio Shack National Teachers of the Year in 2000. From 2000-2003, she served as the Technology in Motion trainer for South Alabama Research and Inservice Center. During this time, she was named a Marco Polo Field Trainer of the Month three times and a Marco Polo Field Trainer of the Year for 2002. In 2005, she was named Educational Leadership Graduate Student of the Year by the University of South Alabama. She currently serves as the School Technology Coordinator at Fairhope High School. She enjoys genealogy research, digital photography and video editing, and swimming.
