Yes, I did get sucked into the Police reunion hype, and I did indeed tune in late and missed it. Eh, whatever.

I'm not too familiar with the Dixie Chicks' music, although I really liked their arrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner that they sung at the Superbowl a few years ago. After winning multiple awards this year, one of them even acknowledged in her speech that it seemed people were exercising their right to free speech - implying that they won because the voters wanted to vindicate them for the backlash to their anti-Bush rant a while back. The Oscars, of course, are guilty of awarding movies for political reasons as well, but the Grammys so blatantly cater to popular taste and disregard the masterful MUSICIANSHIP in the classical and jazz worlds. There should be a separate awards show - maybe on PBS - call it the Cultural Grammys or something - that honors real talent.
